Scarring is a naturally occurring process in response to injury/ surgery. It is the body’s attempt to re-organise and re-connect the damaged tissue. Inflammatory conditions such as endometriosis can cause adhesions which are similar to scars, however, these are pathological rather than physiological. Similar adhesions can also form internally post operation.The fibrous scar tissue can take up to two years to fully form. If not healed well, scars can create a disturbance field which can effect bodily functions.
In order to understand how a scar can effect the function of organs and tissues, we need to understand how much of our body’s activity is led by electricity. The body is electric. Electrical signals flow through Facia- a connective tissue made of tiny tubules which carry fluid and electrical information. When a scar is formed, the electrical pathways of information can become blocked. This can lead to a disturbance field which over time will “jam” information moving in the area leading to dysfunction. Aside from electrical conductivity that can become impaired, scars can diminish the inherit movement pattern of organs, which effect organ function.
Itchy, red and agitated, painful or numb scars are an indication that they are not healing well. Although It is sometimes difficult to see the correlation, experience shows that when scars resolve well, different symptoms can improve or disappear. In particular cesarian scars and tummy tuck scars are commonly situated across a number of pathways and tend to effect function if they are “active”.
It is easier to resolve scares in their early months when they are still forming. I recommend to observe scarring post operation and make sure they are healing well. Certain acupuncture techniques can be used to improve electrical conductivity in disturbance fields of scars.
