Your acupuncturist is your body’s electrician!

For so many people acupuncture is an unknown thing. It seems as a strange thing they don’t understand and therefore they avoid using it as a tool for their own health and wellbeing. I can understand that it may seem as a strange concept to stick needles in someone and expect them to get better! But, if you have the patience I encourage you, to keep reading a little more..hopefully it will make more sense!

Our western model of medicine views our body from a chemical view point. Although chemicals such as hormones, minerals and other nutrients play their important role, they are only one aspect of our physiology. The other aspect is electricity.

In the same way that a car that uses petrol and oils to function, needs an electric stimulus to turn on, many mechanisms in our body are driven by electricity. There is one difference between the electricity that makes your oven work and the electricity that make our body function – In the body, electricity is only an aspect of something greater, that is, an intelligent life force called Qi by the ancient Chinese.

Our body is electric. Electricity flows in our brain, nerves, connective tissue and is a part of cellular activity. We even know that when sperm and egg join together, there is a flash of light – the beginning of life is electric! Here is an example: we all know that our bones need calcium and minerals to be strong and healthy. We know now how important are fit D and K are for this process. But even when you have calcium in your diet and you are taking the best supplements with all the right vitamins, how does your body know to bring these resources into your bones? Well, it turns out that along your bones there are lines of connective tissue. When stress is put on the bone these lines bend. When they do, en electric response takes place directing resources to the required area in your bone. Even though venous blood is aided in its movement back towards the heart by mechanical support of muscles and valves, it is also ignited to flow back up by an electric stimulus. These are just two examples of many.

It would make sense that the same intelligent life force that is present in all nature and makes flowers know to open up in spring, also makes the heart know how to beat so perfectly. Acupuncture utilises the body’s own intelligent electrical mechanisms and pathways and stimulates them in the direction of a healthy processes.
