Achieving greater freedom of movement and authenticity

What actually happens in a session?

Active sessions:

Learning Alexander Technique is like learning a new language. Just as we build a greater repertoire of vocabulary, and with time can speak fluently, Alexander Technique teaches us the language of co-operation with our design. This process usually requires a series of sessions in order to understand the principles of the method and to be able to apply them in daily activity. Each session may include specific tasks of daily life such as standing, sitting, walking, talking, cutting, singing etc. By performing these tasks with the support of an experienced teacher, you will learn how apply the method until it becomes a natural expression in every day activity. The skill of Alexander Technique is an ever evolving process which is refined further over time.

Table work:

While you are resting on a massage table, I apply the Technique to create expansion and length in the body. It is very relaxing and supports parasympathetic pathways. People often report that they feel very calm, expansive and ‘on a cloud’.

Can I benefit from Alexander Technique?

When I was 18 years old, I asked an Alexander teacher to advise me on which direction to take in my life and career. He smiled and told me: “If you ask me, before you do anything in your life, you should study Alexander Technique”. I didn’t listen to his advice until many years later. Today it is clear beyond doubt that he was right. It is not what you do in life but how you do it! Alexander Technique is all about the ‘how’!

Alexander Technique can be helpful for improving any skill, such as playing an instrument, working on a computer, cooking in the kitchen or any other activity that you might find challenging. It is very helpful when ‘wrong use’ has led to pain and inflammation, for example: knee/back injury, headaches, postural issues when sitting, standing, walking; or neck pain from working long hours on a computer.
Alexander Technique can also be used to cultivate a clear and peaceful mind. It guides us to live in the present moment.
